COVID-19 Track Update
Practice was supposed to begin next week on March 23; however, due the pandemic of COVID-19, we will have to postpone our start date. On Monday 3/16/2020 LISD sent out notification that the schools are closed through April 3. Therefore, The Colony Rec Center will not give access to facilities until then. This action pushes back our start date even further. At this point, we do not have a definitive date when we will be able to begin practicing. We will keep you posted as updates are received from the city and LISD, as well as TAAF and AAU. In the meantime, please continue to take proper precautions to keep your families safe during this time. Registration for this season will tentatively close on Friday, May 8th. Complete registration includes payment (partial or full) AND submission of the online registration form.
On a side note, if you want to purchase track spikes for your child for this season, now may be the best time to look. Keep in mind that spikes are NOT required, but are encouraged. Eastbay typically has a good selection.
From the Track
Don't run behind from behind
Track and field has changed with the emergence of faster and stronger athletes. More races require decent foot speed to be competitive as in the 800m and the mile. This makes track more of a strategy in training athletes in order to utilize their strengths to become more competitive. In today’s era, if you try to run slow in the beginning and run from behind, most likely in a competitive race you will not catch up. .
